Thanks for such a wonderful website dedicated to such a fine actor as Robert Walker. I very much enjoy viewing the wonderful selections of photos and articles. Robert Walker was such a wonderful actor and gentleman on screen and off. It's wonderful seeing people of all ages enjoying his films and new people being introduced often through the movie channels and wonderful websites like this. I love all of his films, but my favorites will always be "Till the Clouds Roll By," and "The Clock." He had class, charm, warmth, and strength of character. Great acting skills and gave to this world some fine and memorable performances. God bless you Robert Walker!

Though I am young enough that I have been able to see Robert Walker's movies only on TV and video, I've been so impressed with this actor's talent and charm. He departed this world much too soon, but left a wonderful movie legacy.

I must thank you for this web site...When I want to see the finest actor of them all...I watch an old Robert Walker movie...with due respect to todays actors...they can't hold a candle...Thank goodness for film...the fine acting in "Since You Went Away" showed clearly how talented he was...I felt the stuggle for acceptance and the feeling of becoming sorta lost...again,thanks for preserving his memory...there are those of us out here that remember.

I always enjoyed Robert Walker in the movie "Since You Went Away" with Claudette Colbert, Shirley Temple and Jennifer Jones. I never really knew about his life until I recently saw the movie "The Clock" with Robert and Judy Garland and Robert Osborne on TCM mentioned how young he was when he passed away. I was interested to find out more about him and read the story of his life and that he was married to Jennifer Jones. What a sad tale to read about his untimely death. He was such a wonderful actor. Since I was born during WWII, I just love to watch movies from the 40's. They were truly special and Robert Walker contributed to those quality films.

After watching "Since You Went Away" for the 10th time, at least 10 times, I looked Robert Walker up and found this tremendous page saluting his outstanding career. I had known he had passed away at an early age but was so sad to read the circumstances of his death. Such a loss for his family. Robert Walker was a rare talent. He monopolizes the screen even in scenes with Ava Gardner or Jennifer Jones or Judy Garland. He really connected with the audience. He was an "every man" and when I watch his films today he touches me deeply. Thank you for his tribute page. I am so glad that there are so many of us that remember his talen and charisma.

Robert Walker never made a bad movie, not too tall, nor too broad, not pretty or worn, just plain handsome, black, white or Technicolor. Not troubled the way some of his peers came across, not mysterious though it seemed a part of him said "here I am, this is who I am". Yep my kind of actor. I miss him.

This is a wonderful tribute to a beautiful man and very talented actor. I first saw Robert Walker in ,\"The Clock,\" with Judy Garland, and eagerly watched and enjoyed all of his other films. I find all of his films very romantic and moving to watch , plus so very entertaining. I never tire of watching them. I\'m glad he\'s finally getting the recognition and admiration , which he so very much deserves.

Robert Walker was my favorite actor. I was barely a teenager when I fell in love with him, especially in \"Since You Went Away.\" His color foto on the cover of Photoplay (you don\'t have it on your site) hung on my wall. I devoured all the many articles about him and JJ, and their little boys. It broke my heart to see him and JJ playing young lovers in SYWA, knowing that she\'d left him for Selznick and a greater career opportunity as his wife. (You know, Selznick divorced the daughter of L. B. Mayer, most powerful man in Hollywood, to marry JJ.) Selznick was obsessed. Casting Robert Walker opposite his estranged wife in love scenes was like voyeurism. RW\'s role in that film was very touching - the young man who was such a disappointment to his grandfather.

I saw him in person at the Loew\'s State theater in NY in 1948 (they used to have stage shows between showings of first-run MGM films), with Xavier Cugat\'s Cuban orchestra and with Lena Horne. He and Lena Horne danced the rhumba to Cugat\'s music. He was a good dancer, wore his horn-rimmed glasses and looked great.

After JJ he saw Florence Pritchett (a journalist) a lot, but his life was filled with sadness just at the height of his career. \"Strangers on a Train\" showed a whole different side of his acting talent. He was not overlooked during his life, being very popular and a respected actor. I saw all his movies, loved him in everything even when mis-cast, and cried when I saw the story about his death on the front page of the New York papers on my way to my first job.

Thank you for this wonderful site.

BTW, JJ suffered from depression herself in her middle years, and I often thought she must have suffered some feelings of guilt for the effect her leaving had on her young husband\'s short life.

Sorry to ramble on so...

What a marvelous and truly fitting tribute to Robert Walker. I\'ve always considered Walker one of the most underrated actors of the Golden Age of Hollywood, and so little has been published about him (at least to my knowledge). What a wealth of information and images are contained here! This extraordinary tribute surely does the great actor proud. BRAVO!

Sorry to cast cold water on a previous fan\'s ardour but the JJ website message board seems to cast doubt that it is THE JJ (and I agree) and that another contemporary actress who uses the name of \"Jennifer Jones\" will be appearing in \"The Last New Yorker\" billed for release in 2006.I know that Imdb.com has this listed under JJs filmography but when it is released it will prove if this is a mistake. If so I hope they correct it.You are right that she will be 87 years old this year (born 2nd March 1919) but she has not made a feature film since \"The Towering Inferno\"(1974)and as far as I know has long since retired from making movies

I am a devoted fan of the work of Jennifer Jones having collected all 24 of the feature films she made (between 1939-1974), tribute speeches, personal appearances, the A&E 2001 biography etc.I\'ve even managed to obtain her on video in the 1998 and 2003 past Oscar winners(1943) tableau (part of the Academy Awards presentation held every 5 years) through the kind help and services of her tribute web site creator.Through my interest in her work I have become a keen collector of her ex-husband, the late actor Robert Walker. One of his films the comedy \"See Here Private Hargrove\"(1943) has to my knowledge never been seen on UK tv networks (even the UK TCM version on Sky BSB digital network) but I was delighted recently to make contact with an American dealer who was able to sell me a copy of this film on DVD (they are more enlightened in America about these things). In my collection I noticed that curiously he had been cast as a corporal in three films: \"Since You Went Away (1944),\"The Clock\" (1945)and briefly for one day \"See Here Private Hargrove (1943) before he got demoted back to private!!.
Us fans have to really dig out these slightly obscure old films since in the main they are not commercially available through the usual dealer network as they are deemed not commercially viable due to lack of public demand.

That\'s all those dealers know.

She has the most incredible..gorgeous pictures...some of them taken out of the trash because they weren\'t just \"perfect\"...although to me..they are beautiful...esp, the pix of Robert & Judy Garland from \"The Clock\"..absolutely \"priceless..\" Robert, you should see these pictures!!!!

Hi, Darilyn!!! Yes, I know where Robert Walker\'s grave is, e-mail me. It is quite touching to see his simple gravestone right between his mother and father\'s graves. I am doing research on the many early stage and film stars from Utah for my next book and fell in love with quite a few locals who became film legends. One of these was Robert Walker. A great talent, tragically lost too soon. He probably was just emerging as a great character actor from his years as a leading man. Ten years ago all I could find about him was the one book by Beverly Linet entitled \"Star-Crossed\" and very little on the web. Now, there is this absolutely wonderful and very thorough website which honors his memory so tastefully and as accurately as possible. Thanks so much for making more people aware of a man who had the depth for \"dark\" portrayals as well as \"light\" ones. Probably what draws people to this man, long since gone,is not only his personal struggles but his tragic love story. No one can fault either one of these two people, who both dealt with a lot of tragedy and fame in their lives while they were still so young. They both made mistakes like we all do when young. I say, it\'s about time...about time that Robert Walker\'s genius be celebrated, remembered and honored!

Hi Eileen. Yes, I think it had everything to do with JJ\'s ambition and ruthless self-obsession. And if there are any psychologists here, I would love to hear a discussion on JJ. What characteristics did she have that caused two men to be obsessed with her? Women apparently saw right through her. Her daughter was quoted as saying, \"Mother said all the right things but I never felt she really believed them.\"

This is so wonderful -- so many people remember Robert Walker. I thought I was the only one! I saw many of his films first on the family\'s B&W TV in the 1960s. I was enchanted by \"One Touch of Venus\" and then most affected by the moving \"Since You Went Away\". I also loved him in \"See Here, Private Hargrove\". I was very saddened to learn here that he was dead at 33. What a tragedy. And for Jennifer Jones, I don\'t get it. I met David O.S. years ago. Very charming, but still...does anyone else think it had to do with her ambition & career? Anyway, thanks so much for this excellent and deserving tribute to a talented and deep actor. Ah, Bruno!

with Judy Garland. I said that\'s Robert Walker. I looked in an Almanac. I found he passed away in 1951 at 30 or 31 years of age. Next on Google I found this site. After reading a lot of entries by others I decided to sent in this. I will never wonder who he was again. I own a copy of a Star Treks. Now at 66 i\'m glad
he isn\'t a stranger. He was a great actor and person.

Thanks for this awsome Site. I must confess that Ive shortly seen Robert Walker the first time in my life by watching Hitchcocks \"Strangers On A Train\" - and until now I did not even know Robert Walker at all. I cant tell what an astonishing discovery this was. An ingenius actor like this. Unbelievable intense in his expression. This required a little investigation on the internet, to find out what ive missed until now. So, thanks again for the Site and best regards from Berlin, Germany.

By coincidenc I\'ve just watched Mr Walker\'s son in star Trek, too - finding this site after watching what was a very powerful performance then reading about Mr Walker\'s troubled life made the performance in the show seem incredibly poignant, almost painful (the character was young and terrified of rejection). It was a very good performance indeed.

I grew up hearing stories about Robert Walker, all the movies he was in and his tragic death because he was my mother\'s uncle. My grandfather, Wayne Walker, was his brother. I was fascinated by the account of his joys and sorrows, actually more like agonies and ecstacies in the book \"Star Crossed Lovers\", about he and Jennifer Jones. I felt a great deal of sympathy for him. I think he suffered alot, having been raised quite harshly by his mother, being a very sensitive boy (and man) and struggling as he did with depression. I wish the medications to treat mood disorders were as advanced as they are now and that he\'d been able to get better help medically and with therapy. And I really wish I knew why Jennifer left him for that other guy, I don\'t get that AT ALL. I hope Robert Jr. and Michael are HAPPY and well.

I love Robert Walker, Jr. too. I first saw him in a Hawaii 5-0 episode and thought he was so-o-o cute. Since then I saw him in Ensign Pulver. Absolutely fabulous. What a talented man, no surprise since he had such talented parents.

I just love Robert Walker. When I see him in the movies, I just want to hug and rescue him. It\'s really tragic that he died so young-I\'m sure he would have been in a lot more great movies. My favorites-Since You Went Away and Strangers on the Train. Thank you for honoring him in this wonderful website.

Hi,

Has anyone brought the new 2-disc set of \'Strangers on a Train\', which has lots of extras on it including a \'Making of\' documentary which I understand features Robert Walker\'s son talking about the making of the film (don\'t know which son).

Sounds like an excellent DVD to get. If anyone has brought it yet, what did they think of the extras?

Deborah

Very much enjoyed your tribute to Robert Walker and his sons. Walker always a favorite of mine had great depth as an actor. Too bad his life and career were so short. Currently watching the Star Trek episode starring son Robert Walker Jr. which prompted me to look up Senior. Good job on your Walker web site.

I just finished enjoying STRANGERS ON A TRAIN, and then found this page on the net. Six feel tall, 145 pounds? Is that possible?
It would be interesting to learn about his stay in the institution. How did that stay effect him?

I truly enjoyed the work of Robert Walker and I found it very intriging that he was married to jennifer jones. After so many years gone by now, his work is still remembered and will never be forgotten. For so many years I have seen robert walker jr on screen and never connected the name or the face, but I clearly see the resemblance and the connection now. God Bless and Peace
